Harrisburg, PA – State Senator Kim Ward (R-39), Chairperson of the Pennsylvania Senate Community Economic and Recreational Development Committee, announced today that the Committee will hold a hearing when the Senate returns to session in June to further discuss the findings in The Current Condition and Future Viability of Casino Gaming Report in PennsylvaniaThis report was commissioned by the PA Joint Legislative Budget and Finance Committee.

During the presentation today, representatives from Econsult Solutions, Inc., outlined their findings that touched on the current health of the gaming industry in PA; as well as, other factors that may impact Pennsylvania Casinos in the future.  In addition to the relationships between in-state casinos and the new casinos being constructed in neighboring states, the report highlighted potential regulatory adjustments and the potential revenue of internet gaming as opportunities to maintain and increase gaming revenue in PA today, and in the future.

“There was a lot of information in the report, and I have discussed a number of these issues in the last year with the existing casinos in Pennsylvania.  I am specifically interested in finding out more about online gaming, some of the potential regulatory adjustments outlined in this report, and further exploring the impact of the additional licenses in PA set to come to fruition.  The Committee will seek to get feedback from both the Gaming Board and the industry on how best to move forward,” Stated Ward.

The PA Community, Economic, and Recreational Development Committee oversees gaming legislation in the Pennsylvania Senate.

“If there is a need to re-open the existing gaming laws to address new trends and changes surrounding the gaming industry, then we should address that now, in order to maintain the industry’s health and vitality in the future,” she finished.
